American Media's Influence on Panamanian Media

I am Arlinda and I come from Panama.
In Panama, the media industry is very similar to the United States especially because of all the media influences that come from the U.S. My description and opinions about Panamanian media are based on the fact that every year forms of media are getting better and better, by producing more TV shows, music videos, radio programs, new and entertaining channels and so much more.
The principal thing that I noticed the most about American media is that it is very powerful and commercial. In the one we can find a variety of ideas, characters, many unique and fresh thoughts. Furthermore, most of the media is reflected in everyday life, making the movies and shows produced worldwide best sellers, because almost everybody can get in touch with the stories and see themselves in the characters.
The freedom of the press is very important especially for so many countries that don’t have it, but I think here the freedom of the press is sometimes taken for granted. This is why I think all of us should open our vision and appreciate the liberty of expressing one’s ideas in freedom.

Millennials "Us"

I truly believe that media has affected young people and I’m therefore in agreement with the definition of millennials.
Nowadays, almost everybody is becoming more technologically aware because of the advancement. However, the millennials, as in the new generation, are more exposed to this upgrade.
I think technology has made our lives much easier and productive in so many ways, but with all these new things, it could become a problem in that by being in touch with so much technology we could forget the importance of our reality and start living indoors with our personal ideal of “social behavior”.
Even if at times it looks like all these advances and technology are taking so much of us by being such an important part of our lives, I think that many young people still enjoy and care about the simple and beautiful things in life.
All this media advances are creating a world with more and more competition especially for us, the millennials. In our lives, we have more expectations, pressure and competition from our family, friends and society as well. Moreover, it’s understandable that we can be prone to psychological and even emotional distress like in early ages.
The advice that I could give to older generations is that they have to understand how much the world is changing and that they should try to get in touch with our reality without judging our thoughts, because communication is priceless.

My name is Arlinda. I was born in Albania, but I’ve been living in Panama for the past nine years. I have been at Lindenwood University for the past semester and am studying Mass Communications/ TV. My career interests are based on the medium of effective communication but also my personal interests as an individual. Here at Lindenwood University, I have been a part of the International Celebration as well as the LU Crew used to encourage team spirit. This coming school year I am just excited about the overall learning experience not just in the academic field but also as a life-changing experience. When it comes to television I prefer the programs like E News where you are informed of the latest occurrences of Hollywood. The best movies would have to be those that bring you into their world as the main character, stepping into their shoes and living through everything you do. I also love to travel.
